Shekau Claims Boko Haram Victories Over Military In New Video

Abraham - May 29, 2013
The leader of Islamist extremist group Boko Haram claims in a video obtained by AFP on Tuesday that Nigerian soldiers have retreated during an ongoing military offensive and insurgents have sustained little damage. The video marks the first public comments from Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau since the start of a sweeping offensive by the Nigerian army on May 15 and also includes a call for foreign Islamists to join the fight in Nigeria.Shekau’s whereabouts cannot be determined in the video, in which he is shown seated while dressed in camouflage with a turban, an AK-47 at his side. His comments contradict statements from the military, which has claimed major successes during the offensive, including the destruction of Boko Haram camps and dozens of arrests. It has been impossible to verify the claims of either side independently, with the military having cut mobile phone service in much of the country’s northeast and access to remote locations restricted.“Since we started this ongoing war which they call state of emergency … in some instances soldiers who faced us turned and ran,” Shekau said in the hour-long video. He claimed Nigerian forces “threw down their arms in flight.”He called on like-minded Islamists in countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to join the fight to create an Islamic state in Nigeria.“We call to us our brethren in these countries I mentioned. Oh! Our brethren, come to us,” he said in the video, which alternates between Arabic and the Hausa language spoken across northern Nigeria. The video later purports to show vehicles and weapons seized from Nigerian soldiers.Shekau, designated a global terrorist by the United States last year, repeats earlier statements that Boko Haram “will not stop the kidnap of your women and children until you set free our women and children, and our brethren.”He also says Boko Haram’s goal is either the creation of an Islamic state or “martyrdom”.The images of Shekau in the video are consistent with those previously released. Nick and Wendy Lowe were married at the Wellington Naturist Club on Saturday in a “clothing optional” wedding, reported local newspaper The Dominion Post. About half of the 120 guests were Unclad. Both clothed and Unclad photos were taken, and though guests were asked to dress for dinner, the dancing portion of the event was clothing optional.
Nick encouraged Wendy to embrace the “naturism,” or nudist, lifestyle six years ago.“It was one of the first things he said to me: ‘I’m a naturist, how do you feel about it?’ I knew at some point I’d have to at least try it,” Wendy said. More photos from lowe's unclad wedding:
In case you wondering,Allow me to tell you that its their religion and its called''Hedonism"The million dollar question-what is hedonism? quick answer:
Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that pleasure is the only intrinsic good In very simple terms, a hedonist strives to maximize net pleasure (pleasure minus pain).Ethical hedonism is the idea that all people have the right to do everything in their power to achieve the greatest amount of pleasure possible to them. It is also the idea that every person's pleasure should far surpass their amount of pain. Ethical hedonism is said to have been started by a student of Socrates, Aristippus of Cyrene. He held the idea that pleasure is the highest good.

The Nigerian movie industry has been making great strides lately with some of its movies now being featured in international film festivals and premiered in Hollywood; for example, the latest Jeta Amata movie, Black November, recently had a red carpet premiere in Hollywood. The growth in the industry has been propelled by its increasing popularity domestically as well as an audience that has gone beyond the original African fan base.In less than two decades, Nigeria’s film industry, or “Nollywood as it has come to be known, has become the ‘embodiment of Nigeria’s soft power.’ It has become a phenomenon, which has helped shaped perceptions and provides a dramatic visualisation of the rich African culture and traditions. The Nigerian movie industry has also reflected the resilient entrepreneurial spirit of the continent and stands out as the cultural mainstay of Africans in the Diaspora.

Keys to finanacial success

Abraham - May 27, 2013
mecksoncrownBlog
Although making resolutions to improve your financial situation is a good thing to do at any time of year, many people find it easier at the beginning of a new year. Regardless of when you begin, the basics remain the same. Here are top nine keys to getting ahead financially.
1. Get Paid What You're Worth and Spend Less Than You Earn
It sounds simplistic, but many people struggle with this first basic rule. Make sure you know what your job is worth in the marketplace, by conducting an evaluation of your skills, productivity, job tasks, contribution to the company, and the going rate, both inside and outside the company, for what you do. Being underpaid even a thousand dollars a year can have a significant cumulative effect over the course of your working life.
No matter how much or how little you're paid, you'll never get ahead if you spend more than you earn. Often it's easier to spend less than it is to earn more, and a little cost-cutting effort in a number of areas can result in big savings. It doesn't always have to involve making big sacrifices.
2. Stick to a Budget
One of my favorite subjects: budgeting. It's not a four-letter word. How can you know where your money is going if you don't budget? How can you set spending and saving goals if you don't know where your money is going? You need a budget whether you make thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
3. Pay Off Credit Card Debt
Credit card debt is the number one obstacle to getting ahead financially. Those little pieces of plastic are so easy to use, and it's so easy to forget that it's real money we're dealing with when we whip them out to pay for a purchase, large or small. Despite our good resolves to pay the balance off quickly, the reality is that we often don't, and end up paying far more for things than we would have paid if we had used cash.
4. Contribute to a Retirement Plan
If your employer has a 401(k) plan and you don't contribute to it, you're walking away from one of the best deals out there. Ask your employer if they have a 401(k) plan (or similar plan), and sign up today. If you're already contributing, try to increase your contribution. If your employer doesn't offer a retirement plan, consider an IRA.
5. Have a Savings Plan
You've heard it before: Pay yourself first! If you wait until you've met all your other financial obligations before seeing what's left over for saving, chances are you'll never have a healthy savings account or investments. Resolve to set aside a minimum of 5% to 10% of your salary for savings BEFORE you start paying your bills. Better yet, have money automatically deducted from your paycheck and deposited into a separate account.
6. Invest!
If you're contributing to a retirement plan and a savings account and you can still manage to put some money into other investments, all the better.
7. Maximize Your Employment Benefits
Employment benefits like a 401(k) plan, flexible spending accounts, medical and dental insurance, etc., are worth big bucks. Make sure you're maximizing yours and taking advantage of the ones that can save you money by reducing taxes or out-of-pocket expenses.
8. Review Your Insurance Coverages
Too many people are talked into paying too much for life and disability insurance, whether it's by adding these coverages to car loans, buying whole-life insurance policies when term-life makes more sense, or buying life insurance when you have no dependents. On the other hand, it's important that you have enough insurance to protect your dependents and your income in the case of death or disability.
9. Keep Good Records
If you don't keep good records, you're probably not claiming all your allowable income tax deductions and credits. Set up a system now and use it all year. It's much easier than scrambling to find everything at tax time, only to miss items that might have saved you money.

How To Be A Successful Entrepreneur

Abraham - May 23, 2013
1. Master change
“The world is changing and the question is, as an entreupenuer, can you master change?” Sun believes that any successful entrepreneur should be able to answer this question affirmatively. At Pirq, he says, “we literally have a pivot every day.” Though his father told him this is the wrong way to run a business, with the right way to set a goal and the follow steps over again to attain this goal, Sun disagrees and believes “in today’s world technology is changing so fast you need to learn to habitually pivot….because market forces change.”
2. Try day trading first
Perhaps not literally, but Sun explains “if you ever try day trading, your heart palpitates. You get so nervous about what’s happening in the macro and micro conditions for that stock, and you have to watch it on four screens – it’s amazing.” If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, Sun advises you must be able to “handle the stress of a term sheet going bad still needing to pay $200,000 in payroll.” Sun warns that all entrepreneurs must be able to sustain the ups and downs of the business in both your heart and mind – and manage this with your employees, especially those of whom may be new and worried.
3. Learn to sell
Sun says that “selling is extremely important, even as a programmer. You have to learn to sell to both investors and your first customers.” He adds that the strategy for selling to your first 100 customers will not be the same acquisition strategy for your next 100 customers. To that, Sun suggests to not “be afraid to discount you’re first 100 – but keep it quiet.” He also suggests to learn to sell your own skills.
4. Be unique
Sun is adamant that ”You have to have a unique approach to your market, your product, and your team. If you’re not unique, it will be really difficult for someone to cut a check for you or buy from you.” Additionally, he advises that you must be able to explain your product very well – especially to VC’s.
5. Realize not everyone can be beautiful (aka the CEO)
“When you’re putting your team together, not everyone can be the CEO – or even C-level. Everyone has to take a role, and if you can be be humble to take a backseat role, the team can move forward,” Sun suggests. He also adds that it’s critical to align equity structure in a fair way when “not everyone can be beautiful” – or in this case, the CEO.
6. If you are not educated, find someone who is
Sun strongly believes that “there is value of working at microsoft or google because there is an an institution of knowledge you wouldn’t find at a startup.” He advises aspiring entrepreneurs who don’t have this experience to “find a partner who has this experience or who comes from a really good college.” While many might disagree with this, Sun says this “does matter to investors.”
7. Understand that money matters
While some startups care less about this, Sun strongly believes that to be successful, money must be important. “Money matters in getting your product to market, money matters in getting your product developed, and it matters in terms of your revenue model upfront,” he said.  This last point was the most important to Pirq’s model, as Sun explains “when you offer something for free, and then charge later – we all know what happens.” He suggests building something instead with a unit model that you can scale, especially if your product is B2B.
8. Know that every industry is different
“The world that we’re living in today is bigger and bigger….but every industry is different,” said Sun. In light of this, he suggests mastering how to sell to one vertical before moving on to another.
9. Hire slow and fire fast
This advice from Sun was actually learned via Donald Trump. As Sun says, “we’re not here to support the community.” While it may not be fun, Sun advises that it’s better to fire someone earlier than later so they can move on. “Inspiration and dreams alone is not enough – you have to weigh the costs, and there are costs to being an entrepreneur and running the business.”
While Sun is still building Pirq, he is not afraid to admit that he has made mistakes along the way as an entrepreneur, and as he says, “is still a work in progress.” His ability to recognize what it takes to succeed early on, though, has not only landed him at the same table as Donald Trump, but has enabled Sun to direct his current company towards success – which really is, and should be, the ultimate goal of any entrepreneur.

D’Banj Signs Durella To DB Records

Abraham - May 23, 2013
D’banj‘s quest for dominance in the Nigerian music scene won’t stop now; he might have lost out on signing Olamide and Davido – but he has nicked another artiste, this time a familiar friend-foe.
The self-proclaimed ‘African Michael Jacskon‘, we’ve learnt has signed his friend-turned-foe-turned-friend Oluwadamilare Okulaja better known to the public as Durella. The move might however not come as a surprise to everyone, considering that Banger Lee (that’s D’banj’s new nickname by the way) and the ‘King of the Zanga’ Durella recently settled their differences. Some weeks back, D’banj and his DB Records crew released a single ‘Ibadi e‘ off their compilation album (D’ King’s Men) which featured a verse from Durella.
Fans were very excited to see the pair had reunited after a very long and well publicized fall out between the pop acts.
FLASHBACK
The beef between Durella and D’banj started in late 2006 when the latter accused Banger Lee of jacking his style of singing. Apparently when D’banj and Don Jazzy returned to Nigeria in 2004, they met up with Durella and soon became friends. Sources tell us that D’banj and Durella were quite close and were spotted together in the studio several times.
I remember when Durella followed D’banj, Don Jazzy to Jahborne’s music factory studio when D’banj wanted to record ‘Tongolo’ remix’, a source recounts.Of course D’banj had blown up and had released his second album ‘Rundown’ in 2007 when Durella signed with TC Records and finally launched his career. It didn’t take long for Durella to blow up too with hits like ‘In da Zanga’, ‘Wiskolowiska’ and ‘Shayo’ gaining massive appeal. He also won the MTV and Zain ‘Advance Warning’ reality show in 2008.Then came the interviews; Durella clearly stated that D’banj had stolen his style. The media of course jumped on it, comparing both artistes. Truthfully, they did sound very similar. And it seemed like D’banj was aware as he switched up the flow on the 2008 Nigerian Pop classic album ‘The Entertainer’. Their fight sort of fizzled out though as Durella later backed off. ‘D’banj is my man, aaah, I like his mo gbono feli feli jam’, Durella told Onome ‘BigTyme’ Oyaide in an interview on urban radio station Rhythm FM 93.7 in late 2008

FROM THISDAY NEWS-Minister: Power Generation to Reach 6,000MW in July

Abraham - May 23, 2013
The Minister of State for Power, Hajia Zainab Kuchi, has disclosed that power generation will increase from its current 4,500 to 6,000MW in July and rise further to 10,000MW by December.
This came as the Senate  Wednesday vehemently opposed the move by the federal government to liquidate Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its mobile subsidiary Mtel, saying it is counter-productive.
The minister made the assertion yesterday during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Power, where she disclosed that a whopping N347 billion would be needed for the transmission network as power generation increases.
According to her, even though the process of privatising the companies created from the unbundling of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) had been completed, the generating and distribution companies that were bid for last year could not be handed over to successful bidders because the companies were currently not in good shape. She added that the delay in putting the companies in good shape was caused by non-availability of funds, explaining that the power ministry had not received any budgetary allocation since January.
She however assured the lawmakers that all power companies that were bid for last year would be duly handed over to bonafide owners in December.Kuchi, who emphasised that the Ministry of Power had been running on a zero allocation almost six months into the 2013 fiscal year, disclosed that it has been surviving only on remnants of its N5 billion allocation in 2012.She implored the committee chairman, Senator Philip Aduda, to use his good office to intervene in the situation.Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) told the Ministry of Communications and BPE at a meeting yesterday that its move to liquidate NITEL and Mtel was in bad faith. The committee chairman, Senator Gbenga Obadara (Ogun Central), who convened the opposition of the Senate to the plan, said NITEL was financially sound until Pentascope was brought in to manage the outfit. He accused BPE of its inability to give a substantive report of the value and financial status of NITEL.
Obadara said BPE only told the committee what NITEL owed without disclosing how much it is being owed, adding that the non-core assets of NITEL which had been sold, had been used to pay off ex-NITEL staff.

J. Cole credits his confidence in "Born Sinner" as the reason behind the album's new release date, says he expects "an incredible album" from Kanye West.

Abraham - May 21, 2013
Upon announcing that he would move up the release of his sophomore album, Born Sinner, to June 18, Carolina emcee j.cole caused quite the stir since the change means he’ll now be releasing an album on the same day as fellow rapper kanye west
Many questioned the move and Cole broke down exactly why he chose to change the release date for his album during an interview with billboard According to the Dreamville representer, he’d rather compete directly against Kanye’s Yeezus album rather than drop his project a week after the release of Yeezus.
"I'm not going to sit [here]... I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It'd be like, 'Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.' Nah. I'm going to go see him on that date. He's the greatest. So it's like, I'm a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn't even a thought," the rapper explained. During the interview, Cole seemed to credit his decision to move up the release of his album on the confidence he has in Born Sinner and strayed away from bringing up any comparisons to the highly competitive 2007."It's a definite statement about how I feel about my album, which is confident…At the same time, let's not forget this is Kanye West,” said Cole. “He bets 100, 1,000, whatever the perfect is. His track record is flawless. I'm only expecting an incredible album from him.”Prior to this week’s announcement, Born Sinner was initially set for a June 25 release

Advance breast cancer detecting machine in india

Abraham - May 21, 2013
New Delhi : An advanced digital breast cancer detecting machine with the capability to see the lesions in breasts with much more clarity than ever before was unveiled in the national capital Sunday.
The mammography machine ‘Amulet’ by Fuji films is claimed to be India’s first low dose resolution system.
Speaking at the launch, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj said: “Every woman should be aware about ever growing breast cancer and need to get done mammography to detect the cancer and fight against it.”
This machine would prove to be helpful in the fight against the disease as it uses artificial intelligence algorithms to assist the radiologist in detecting abnormalities that would not normally be seen by the naked eyes.
