Airline passenger complains about being seated next to obese man

Abraham - January 04, 2014

An irate passenger wrote in to Australian airline Jetstar to complain about being seated next to an obese man on a 4.5-hour flight from Perth to Sydney.

In the blog entry posted on Dec 3 which has gone viral, the passenger, Mr Rich Wisken, wrote about how he paid an extra A$25 (S$28) for an exit row seat, only to find himself pinned to his seat "by a fleshy boulder".

He described the passenger next to him as "an infant hippopotamus" and "Jabba the Hutt", who smelled like "blue cheese" and a "Mumbai slum".

Mr Wisken wrote that he tried to change seats but found those that were empty were taken by other passengers who were stretched out in comfort.

According to UK's Daily Mail Online, Mr Wisken was further aggravated when his subsequent flight to Melbourne was cancelled, as was a rescheduled flight.

The flight was delayed for two hours on his third attempt.

As compensation, all passengers, including Mr Wisken, was offered a A$100 by the airline, reported Sydney's Daily Telegraph.

In an update to his original entry, he continued his rant.

"Awesome work, Jetstar!" he wrote.

"Two of my flights in the past two days have been cancelled. You're so lucky that my favourite pastime is wasting both time and money getting to and from airports.

"Imagine how annoyed someone who doesn't love wasting time and money would feel about this situation. Man, I'd hate to be that guy..."

While some netizens found his letter humorous and entertaining, others were less amused, accusing him of "belittling an innocent man".
