The Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the NNPC, on Monday in Lagos confirmed another pipeline explosion at Ita-Iyalodo, Idimu, a suburb of Lagos.

Mr Nasir Imodagbe, Manager, Media Relations and External Affairs of PPMC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the explosion was as a result of pipeline vandalism.

Imodagbe said that the PPMC Lagos Area office told him that there was no causality as at the time they got to the place around 2.30 p.m.

According to him, the explosion was caused by vandals trying to siphon petroleum products from the pipeline.

"Our officials quickly rushed to the place to curb the fire from escalating to households and to ascertain the level of damage," Imodagbe said.

The PPMC spokesman said that the affected line had been shut down to allow officials to carry out repairs, adding that the line would be back by Tuesday.

He, however, urged Lagosians and residents in the area not to panic, saying that everything was under control.

NAN recalls that Lagos had recorded about 12 incidents of pipeline explosion in 2013 as a result of vandalism.
