The Chairman of Malam-Madori Local Government Council in Jigawa, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna, said on Tuesday that eight people were injured in a windstorm that wrecked havoc in the area at the weekend.

Haruna who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Malam-Madori, said that the windstorm also destroyed over 200 houses.

The chairman said that three out of the injured persons had severe injuries and had been taken to the Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse.

He said that the other injured people were admitted at the Hadejia General Hospital.

The chairman said that the committee set up by the Local Government had listed about 560 houses affected by the storm.

According to him, the victims of the disaster are now squatting in their neighbours’ houses.

“We cannot open a camp for them because of this fasting period and also the rainy season.”

Haruna said that the storm had left the town in total blackout in the last three days, adding that electricity poles and transformers had been destroyed.

The chairman appealed to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria to restore power as soon as possible.
