Cesc 'surprised' by Ozil move

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits he was "really surprised" to see Mesut Ozil join Arsenal, but believes the midfielder will excel in north London.

The Gunners shattered their transfer record fee on deadline day to lure Germany international Ozil away from Real Madrid in a £42.4million move.

The Galacticos' decision to let the 24-year-old leave the Santiago Bernabeu has come as a shock to many, and former Arsenal captain Fabregas admits he was just as taken aback.

He told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: "I was really surprised by Ozil's departure. He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano (Ronaldo).

"He'll be great for Arsenal."

Fabregas has been strongly linked with a return to the Emirates in the future after failing to nail down a regular starting role at the Nou Camp, but the 26-year-old insists he has no intention of leaving the Catalan club, stating not even an offer of double his salary could persuade him to leave.

"The tougher the challenge the better I like it and Barcelona was the biggest and most difficult, and I want to finish in a happy manner and if I can retire at Barca, then so much the better," he added.

"The only thing in my head is triumphing at Barcelona.

"When I arrived at Barcelona I already knew there were other places where I could earn more or where I could have more minutes, but coming to Barca was my dream.

"It was my dream since I was small. I wouldn't go, not even for double the money."
