Smartphone giant Samsung finally unveiled the much awaited smartwatch Galaxy Gear on Wednesday at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin. The smartwatch called Galaxy Gear works as an add-on accessory for its Galaxy smartphones, with a small screen that will offer basic functions like photos, phone calls and instant messaging.
Samsung hopes that the Galaxy Gear will boost the appeal of its range of smartphones, in an increasingly competitive marketplace of Android powered smartphones.
The launch comes at a time when Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone and perhaps its own range wearable devices too. "It's a companion device that will keep us constantly connected," Samsung Executive Vice President of Marketing Lee Young-hee told reporters in Seoul.
