Whooping:Watches And Their Million Dollar Price Tag

Abraham - October 07, 2013

Upwards of a million dollars, the most expensive price tag on a watch stands at a cool $25 million.

From renowned watch and jewellery brands, we bring you our favourite timepieces that score high on design, brand value, and functionality.

P.S. We’ve got a swanky watch for every $million mark, so read on...

Chopard 201 Carat

Price: $25 million

As you could guess, this blinding timepiece boasts of 201 carats of 874 diamonds in total, worked out by 163 carats of white pear shaped and yellow diamonds that make up the bracelet, and three sizeable heart shaped diamonds around the dial—pink (15 carats), blue (12 carats), white (11 carats)—which bloom open on this floral-inspired timepiece with the help of a spring mechanism.

What’s more, even the dial face is embellished with pave-set fine yellow diamonds, so get your glares out ladies, this is sunshine in spring like you’ve never seen before!

Super Complication Pocket Watch by Patek Philippe

Price: $11 million

Part of the legendary Henry Graves collection, the Super Complication is the result of a race between Graves and his contemporary, James Ward Packard, to own the most complicated—with the most number of mechanical functions—watch. Fashioned out of 24k gold, the double-faced watch showcases the 24 complications in all their glory.

Unfortunately, only one of these watches was made, and it is currently owned by Qatari royal family member Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Thani.

Hublot Big Bang

Price: $5 million

If you’ve got a bank balance like Jay-Z and Beyonce, then you can follow suit and pick this diamond-encrusted timepiece by Hublot, the finest and most expensive offerings by the Swiss luxury watchmaker.

Between baguettes and emerald-cut diamonds to the tune of over 100 carats, the 18k white gold case, dial, bracelet and crown form a precious base to a celestial 1,282 diamonds, all graded above A VVS in clarity.

Louis Moinet Meteoris

Price: $4.6 million

Spotted on Nawaz Sharif, what makes the Meteoris worth the price tag is that it is only sold collectively as a set of 4 tourbillon timepieces which are meant to depict the solar system in all its grandeur.

While each ticker hosts a rare meteorite—Tourbillon Mars, Tourbillon Rosetta Stone, Tourbillon Asteroid and Tourbillon Moon—the Meteoris also features a model planetarium setup, on which these timepieces are presented.

Piaget Emperador Temple watch

Price: $3.3 million

Making its debut it 2010, this watch was meant to be one-of-its-kind, but the makers are all geared to make you another should you decide to solicit them. Cleverly, the watch uses a temple-like pyramid structure which open two levels—first reveals the watch face, second reveals a one minute tourbillon and the power reserve indicator.

The levels are studded with a total of 643 brilliant-cut diamonds, 218 baguette-cut diamonds and a singular emerald cut diamond, all supported by a glittering bracelet strap of an additional 350 baguette-cut diamonds.

Well, that’s what you get when an established jewellery and watch brand brings the best of both worlds together.

Cartier Secret (Phoenix)

Price: $2,755,000

This phoenix-inspired timepiece is a length away from Cartier’s signature panther motifs, but perhaps most glorious in the brand’s existing line-up.

A one-of-a-kind, the Cartier Secret was part of the 2010 Merveille du Nil de collection, and could be deemed more suited a piece of jewellery than a ticker.

Using 18k white gold as its base, the watch is covered with 3,010 diamonds totaling 80.13 carats, and befittingly uses emeralds to construct the eyes, with a glorious 3.53 carat pear-shaped, portrait-cut diamond for good measure.

Chopard Super Ice Cube

Price: $1.1 million

No ordinary block of ice, this watch unites multiple diamonds in square cut-outs to adorn the 18k white gold bracelet, case and dial.

A scratch-resistant sapphire glass and about 66.16 carat of diamonds—broken down to 1,897 brilliant cut variants, 288 trapeze cut ddiamonds, and another 16 square ones—make this icy feat worth the big bucks.
