For Oscar Almaguer, his 1967 Volkswagen Beetle is not just a means to get around in Mexico. It also serves as his home. The 83-year-old has been living in his 46-year-old car in Apodaca on the outskirts of Monterrey since his wife divorced him 10 years ago, reported Reuters. With only basic maintenance done on the car and few of its original parts intact, it needs to be started by short-circuiting two wires under the hood.
The wheels and the seats are taken from another VW model, and a plastic bathroom pipe is used in place of a gear-stick. Inside, his clothes are strewn about, and basic items such as cutlery, a salt shaker, and coffee are stored in various nooks and crannies.
