The man accused of being a fake interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial claims he has schizophrenia.
According to reports, Thamsanqa Jantjie said to South African media that he must’ve been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the event that he "started hearing voices" and hallucinated.
This comes after prominent members of the South African deaf community exposed the man by tweeting that he was "signing rubbish" and was a fraud.
Meanwhile, ruling party spokesperson Jackson Mthembu has denied that the man was hired by the African National Congress (ANC).
Mthembu said, "We have used him on some occasions but yesterday was not an ANC event so we cannot answer for yesterday."
