Miley Cyrus lifts the lid on her life and addresses her critics in a revealing trailer for 'Miley: The Movement'.

During the documentary - which is set to air on MTV on Wednesday (02.10.13) - the 'We Can't Stop' singer discusses her plight in redefining her career and image following the end of her Disney show 'Hannah Montana' and the lead up to the release of her fourth studio album 'Bangerz'.

She muses: ''I was born to become who I am right now ... I'm at a point in my career where I can be exactly what I want to be, who I want to be.''

''I have this freedom to do whatever I want, because I'm starting as a new artist now,''

''Every time I do anything, I want to remember, this is what separates me from everybody else.''

Miley also addresses the backlash surrounding her controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards performance last month and insisted she is not one to shy away from controversy.

She explained: ''You're always going to make people talk, you might as well make them talk for two weeks, rather than two seconds.''

The 20-year-old star admits she was ''nervous'' backstage at the ceremony moments before she stripped down to a latex bikini to sing and twerk with Robin Thicke on 'Blurred Lines', as she is heard saying: ''I am more nervous than a mother-f***er, I'm not gonna lie.''

In a series of intimate moments the star is also seen chatting in the studio with Britney Spears - who collaborates on 'Bangerz' track 'SMS' - as well as joking with her album producer and rumoured love interest Mike Will Made It.

Ex-Militants In Gun Battle Over Amnesty Cash Largesse In Bayelsa

Abraham - September 30, 2013

Gun fire erupted in the coastal settlement of Bilabiri in Ekeremo local government area of Bayelsa State over the weekend as a group of ex-militants revolted against their leader, “General” Pius. The rebellious group accused their leader of diverting part of their amnesty financial package doled out by the amnesty office coordinated by Kingsley Kuku.

Two sources said the Sunday morning shoot-out forced many residents to flee the community for their safety.

“The gunmen arrived in two speed boats in search of ‘General’ Pius,” said one source. He added that the militant “commander” was reportedly spending his weekend in Bilabiri. “The residents ran and took refuge in the mangrove swamps as the gunfire intensified,” the source added.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attacking ex-militants moved from the waterfront and advanced to the residence of their “commander” where the shooting intensified.

A resident of the community disclosed that the embattled ex-militant leader may have escaped having been tipped off by some loyalists about the attack.

One source said the gunmen made away with several outboard engines and an undisclosed amount of cash in local and foreign currencies from the residence of the ex-militant leader.

The attack reportedly left the community in a state of anxiety for fear of another attack or a reprisal by gunmen loyal to “General” Pius.

A source with the Joint Task Force confirmed the development, stating that they had received reports of the shoot-out. “Yes, we heard that there was a battle between ex-militants in the area,” the source said.

The force’s spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu said on Sunday that the task force was keeping a close watch on developments in the community.

Khloe Kardashian Praying For Lamar Odom?

Abraham - September 30, 2013

Khloe Kardashian's Religious Tweet

Khloe has been leaning on her family and friends while struggling to save her marriage with Lamar. Now it appears she’s also leaning on God.

On Sept. 29, Khloe Kardashian retweeted a quote from Psalms 55:22 — and it oddly relates to her situation with Lamar Odom. Is she sending prayers to her husband while they’re spending time apart?

Khloe Kardashian Tweets Prayers For Lamar?

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. – Psalm 55:22 #ScriptureSunday,” Khloe retweeted from the @GodPosts twitter account.

Could this be toward Lamar? The tweet comes just two days after the couple’s four-year wedding anniversary, in which Khloe was seen heading to Equinox in Woodland Hills to get a work out in by herself.

That day, Khloe dropped the “Odom” from her name on Twitter.

The night of their anniversary, she tweeted a thank you to all her family and friends for all the support.

Flabby blogger becomes a model after losing 12kg in 4 months

Abraham - September 30, 2013

SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old blogger's weight loss has inspired a reader to believe that nothing is impossible, and hopes that his story can motivate everyone too.

The blogger, Kife Wee, lost 12kg in four months after discovering that the key to losing weight was more than just about restricting his diet or going to the gym.

He revealed in a blog post that he used to weigh more than 80kg at his peak when he was younger. At that time, that was considered severely overweight for his then-1.67m tall frame. Today, his weight varies between 68kg and 70kg.

The reader, who shared photos of Kife's transformation with citizen journalism website Stomp, wrote:  "A recent post of 20-year-old blogger has amazed me to believe that nothing is impossible.

"Kife Wee had been a fat boy ever since young and was motivated to lose weight after an incident that happened to him.

"He thought, 'I was pushed by a guy fatter than me and yet, he said that I was so fat that if I pushed him, he would have flown away.' These tough words motivated him to lose weight.

"One year later, Kife lost 15kg and became thinner due to a restriction in his diet. At that point of time, he thought to himself, 'I'm thin already, so I can start to eat again.'

"This however, did not do him any good as his weight quickly went up by 10kg and he was 82kg at that point of time.

"He decided to go to the gym to work out and tried to stick to a healthy lifestyle. With the help of his trainer, He quickly lost 12kg in just a few months.

"He realised that exercising frequently isn't the main key to losing weight. The key to losing so much weight in a short period of time was balancing exercising and diet.

Resign Now, CNPP Urges Okonjo-Iweala

Abraham - September 30, 2013

The Conference of National Political Parties (CNPP) has called on Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, to resign forthwith for deceiving President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Osita Okechukwu, CNPP said it was outraged when Mr. Jonathan stated during his media chat last night how Dr Okonjo-Iweala brandished a World Bank Report which placed corruption in the 3rd or 4th position, after access to fund and infrastructure, as the key factors undermining Nigeria’s development.
“It is the considered view of Conference of Nigerian Political Parties {CNPP} that infrastructure deficit and poor access to fund are by-products of the monumental corruption going in the country,” the statement said.
“We challenge Dr Okonjo-Iweala to publish the said World Bank Report and resign; for we now know how inchoate and anti-people economic policy dished out by the two time Minister of Finance led to the failure and poor performance of ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo regime and currently President Jonathan, adding there is no wonder the Nigeria Governors Forum called for her sack last week.

CNPP pointed out that it is trite that with the type of monumental corruption going on in the land for the past decade, in the midst of unprecedented Oil and Gas Revenue; gross infrastructure deficit, capital flight and poor access to fund was certain to be the ultimate outcome.
“CNPP is appalled that the Minister and others of her ilk exploit the kindness and gullible trust of Mr. President to fleece and milk our dear country dry.
“Otherwise, if not for corruption, what is the economic sense for a country to spend over $7 billion annually for importation of refined petroleum products; rather than building new refineries?”

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Conference said, has shown that $3 billion can build a 400,000-barrel per day capacity refinery in less than 3 years.
“CNPP goes further to ask, if not for corruption why have the Agege-Ota-Abeokuta, Lokoja-Abuja, Lokoja-Benin, Lagos-Benin, Lagos-Ibadan, Gombe-Maiduguri, Maiduguri-Kano, East-West, Port Harcourt-Enugu, Enugu-Onitsha and others roads not been completed? They were budgeted for year in and year out and government in its wisdom budgeted below prevailing market rate of oil price and yet uncompleted,” it said.

“If not for corruption, why didn’t the $16 billion spent on the power sector provide adequate electricity supply? If not for corruption, why is 75% cost of Zungeru Power on loan?”
It described as “uncountable” the examples of how corruption created gross infrastructure deficit, led to capital flight, devalued the Naira, poor access to fund, high interest rate, crippled social services, ASUU strike and Boko Haram are legion.
CNPP then called on Okonjo-Iweala to resign immediately for deceiving President Jonathan into believing that corruption is not the greatest of the cancers afflicting Nigeria, which must be stridently exorcised if we are to advance.

Only last week members of the Nigeria Governors Forum also asked Okonjo-Iweala to resign, citing bad economics.

Photos:PHCN Employees, Pensioners Protest Unpaid Entitlements As Successor Companies Set for Take over Power Companies

Abraham - September 30, 2013

--PMNEWS

Employees and pensioners of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) this morning seized activities at various offices across the country in protest against their unpaid entitlements.

Accusing government of propaganda, deception and misleading the public with claims that it had settled the employees, the staff and pensioners said the government was misleading the public against them, whereas they have not been paid.

At the Marina office, Eko Electricity Distribution Zonal complex today, the protesting workers said only a quarter of the workers were paid to deceive the public and the payment had since stopped.

Chairman of the workers union at the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Segun Afolohunso disclosed that the Minister of Power visited in June and had specifically promised payment would commence on 17th of June.

" That was his promise, but the first person to receive payment got it on August 28th, and they stopped since they paid less than a quarter of the total employees nationwide " , Segun Afolohunso told our correspondent today.

He alleged that the Government had been deceptive in its handling of the matters. " Even before that promise came in June, they had been spreading it in the media that they were paying us " , he said.

The workers also said the government has not paid complete entitlements to the few of workers that were paid.

" They listed fifteen Pension Fund Administrators and asked us to choose whichever we liked and we filled the forms they gave us. But that was all we saw till today " , said one of the protesters.

In a similar development, pensioners of the PHCN also staged their own protest, separately. They said they were not aware the workers were also protesting same day and that they thought the workers had all been settled according to news.

Vice President of the South-west Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Mr. Ganiyu Adegbuyi said the news that Government has settled labour issues in the company were all false claims.

Udo Ekwere, Secretary of the PHCN Ijora Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners also claimed; " We heard they settled the workers and we are here so that our own entitlements would also be paid " .

Both workers and the pensioners accused that the Government deceived the public that issues in the electricity sector have been resolved.

Meanwhile, the successor companies from the privatization exercise conducted by the Nigerian government have set to take over from Tuesday.

" Those companies will not inherit the liabilities and that is why we are insisting that our own employers must pay us before the companies take over. If the new companies prefer, they may enter new contracts with us and if not, we will continue our lives from payments made to us " , the protesters said, adding that they would keep besieging the venue until they are paid all entitlements.

President Jonathan Shocks Nigerians, Says ‘I Don’t Know If Shekau Is Dead Or Alive

Abraham - September 30, 2013

President Goodluck Jonathan shocked Nigerians on Sunday when he declared that he did not know if the leader of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, was dead or alive.

The Joint Task Force, JTF, in Borno State, had said in a statement August 19 that Mr. Shekau might have died of gunshot wounds he received in an encounter with Force’s troops in one of their camps at Sambisa Forest on June 30.
However, Mr. Shekau appeared in a new video last week, claiming that he was not dead.

He also claimed responsibility for the attacks that killed several civilians on September 17 in Benishek, Borno State.

The military vowed to investigate the claims as well as the authenticity of the video.

Mr. Jonathan, our Commander-in-Chief, who receives briefing from security agencies daily, repeatedly said during the media chat that he could not say if the Boko Haram leader had actually died.

“I don’t know whether he (Shekau) is dead or alive,” the President, said in a response to a question tweeted to the panel of interviewers but read to him.
“I don’t know whether Abubakar Shekau is dead or alive. I don’t know him. I have never met him. You journalists know more than us, “some of you always talk to them (Boko Haram).”

Mr Jonathan noted that the Boko Haram saga worsened because it was not “properly handled in the beginning.”

On the killing of some students at the College of Agriculture in Yobe State, on Sunday, the president debunked the claim that such acts were due to widespread poverty in the country.

“Can poor people buy AK47?” he queried.

The president said some of those arrested in the uncompleted building in the Apo District of Abuja where security forces killed no fewer than seven squatters, were member of the Boko Haram sect. According to him they confessed to terrorism.

He said the crisis in Plateau State “is more of ethnic rivalry about who controls land, but Boko Haram is different.”

Mr. Jonathan assured the people that his government would try its best to protect Nigerians in order to forestall the type of incident that occurred at a Kenya Mall recently where over 60 persons were killed by suspected Al Shabaab insurgents.

He said, “We will try our best to ensure Kenyan mall attack is not repeated in Nigeria. If the drum is changing we must change steps. I assure Nigerians we’ll continue to do what is required to protect them.”

Mr Jonathan said there would be no elaborate ceremony on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s 53rd Independence Anniversary, because government had already planned the Centenary ceremony next year, to celebrate the amalgamation of the defunct protectorates in the country.

He added that the decision to have a low-keyed Independence celebration was not because of insecurity, insisting that most parts of the country were now safe.

According to him, “We are not going to do any elaborate ceremony until 2014″…the low key celebrations are not because of security.

“Most parts of this country are safe now for any celebration, even in Maiduguri.”

25 Common Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs

Abraham - September 30, 2013

With the help of entrepreneur.com ,I was able to have a business mind. I actually stumbled on this when glancing through, Hope you gain one or two things from it.
Regardless of your definition of success, there are, oddly enough, a great number of common characteristics that are shared by successful businesspeople. You can place a check beside each characteristic that you feel that you possess. This way, you can see how you stack up. Even if you don't have all of these characteristics, don't fret. Most can be learned with practice and by developing a winning attitude, especially if you set goals and apply yourself, through strategic planning, to reach those goals in incremental and measurable stages.

The Home Business Musts
Like any activity you pursue, there are certain musts that are required to be successful in a chosen activity. To legally operate a vehicle on public roadways, one must have a driver's license; to excel in sports, one must train and practice; to retire comfortably, one must become an informed investor and actively invest for retirement. If your goal is success in business, then the formula is no different. There are certain musts that have to be fully developed, implemented and managed for your business to succeed. There are many business musts, but this article contains I believe to be some of the more important musts that are required to start, operate and grow a profitable home business.

1. Do what you enjoy.
What you get out of your business in the form of personal satisfaction, financial gain, stability and enjoyment will be the sum of what you put into your business. So if you don't enjoy what you're doing, in all likelihood it's safe to assume that will be reflected in the success of your business--or subsequent lack of success. In fact, if you don't enjoy what you're doing, chances are you won't succeed.

2. Take what you do seriously.
You cannot expect to be effective and successful in business unless you truly believe in your business and in the goods and services that you sell. Far too many home business owners fail to take their own businesses seriously enough, getting easily sidetracked and not staying motivated and keeping their noses to the grindstone. They also fall prey to naysayers who don't take them seriously because they don't work from an office building, office park, storefront, or factory. Little do these skeptics, who rain on the home business owner's parade, know is that the number of people working from home, and making very good annual incomes, has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years.

3. Plan everything.
Planning every aspect of your home business is not only a must, but also builds habits that every home business owner should develop, implement, and maintain. The act of business planning is so important because it requires you to analyze each business situation, research and compile data, and make conclusions based mainly on the facts as revealed through the research. Business planning also serves a second function, which is having your goals and how you will achieve them, on paper. You can use the plan that you create both as map to take you from point A to Z and as a yardstick to measure the success of each individual plan or segment within the plan.

4. Manage money wisely.
The lifeblood of any business enterprise is cash flow. You need it to buy inventory, pay for services, promote and market your business, repair and replace tools and equipment, and pay yourself so that you can continue to work. Therefore, all home business owners must become wise money managers to ensure that the cash keeps flowing and the bills get paid. There are two aspects to wise money management.
  1. The money you receive from clients in exchange for your goods and services you provide (income)
  2. The money you spend on inventory, supplies, wages and other items required to keep your business operating. (expenses)

5. Ask for the sale.
A home business entrepreneur must always remember that marketing, advertising, or promotional activities are completely worthless, regardless of how clever, expensive, or perfectly targeted they are, unless one simple thing is accomplished--ask for the sale. This is not to say that being a great salesperson, advertising copywriting whiz or a public relations specialist isn't a tremendous asset to your business. However, all of these skills will be for naught if you do not actively ask people to buy what you are selling.

6. Remember it's all about the customer.
Your home business is not about the products or services that you sell. Your home business is not about the prices that you charge for your goods and services. Your home business is not about your competition and how to beat them. Your business is all about your customers, or clients, period. After all, your customers are the people that will ultimately decide if your business goes boom or bust. Everything you do in business must be customer focused, including your policies, warranties, payment options, operating hours, presentations, advertising and promotional campaigns and website. In addition, you must know who your customers are inside out and upside down.

7. Become a shameless self-promoter (without becoming obnoxious).
One of the greatest myths about personal or business success is that eventually your business, personal abilities, products or services will get discovered and be embraced by the masses that will beat a path to your door to buy what you are selling. But how can this happen if no one knows who you are, what you sell and why they should be buying?
Self-promotion is one of the most beneficial, yet most underutilized, marketing tools that the majority of home business owners have at their immediate disposal.

8. Project a positive business image.
You have but a passing moment to make a positive and memorable impression on people with whom you intend to do business. Home business owners must go out of their way and make a conscious effort to always project the most professional business image possible. The majority of home business owners do not have the advantage of elaborate offices or elegant storefronts and showrooms to wow prospects and impress customers. Instead, they must rely on imagination, creativity and attention to the smallest detail when creating and maintaining a professional image for their home business.

9. Get to know your customers.
One of the biggest features and often the most significant competitive edge the home based entrepreneur has over the larger competitors is the he can offer personalized attention. Call it high-tech backlash if you will, but customers are sick and tired of hearing that their information is somewhere in the computer and must be retrieved, or told to push a dozen digits to finally get to the right department only to end up with voice mail--from which they never receive a return phone call.

The home business owner can actually answer phone calls, get to know customers, provide personal attention and win over repeat business by doing so. It's a researched fact that most business (80 percent) will come from repeat customers rather than new customers. Therefore, along with trying to draw newcomers, the more you can do to woo your regular customers, the better off you will be in the long run and personalized attention is very much appreciated and remembered in the modern high tech world.

10. Level the playing field with technology.
You should avoid getting overly caught up in the high-tech world, but you should also know how to take advantage of using it. One of the most amazing aspects of the internet is that a one or two person business operating from a basement can have a superior website to a $50 million company, and nobody knows the difference. Make sure you're keeping up with the high-tech world as it suits your needs.. The best technology is that which helps you, not that which impresses your neighbors.

11. Build a top-notch business team.
No one person can build a successful business alone. It's a task that requires a team that is as committed as you to the business and its success. Your business team may include family members, friends, suppliers, business alliances, employees, sub-contractors, industry and business associations, local government and the community. Of course the most important team members will be your customers or clients. Any or all may have a say in how your business will function and a stake in your business future.

12. Become known as an expert.
When you have a problem that needs to be solved, do you seek just anyone's advice or do you seek an expert in the field to help solve your particular problem? Obviously, you want the most accurate information and assistance that you can get. You naturally seek an expert to help solve your problem. You call a plumber when the hot water tank leaks, a real estate agent when it's time to sell your home or a dentist when you have a toothache. Therefore, it only stands to reason that the more you become known for your expertise in your business, the more people will seek you out to tap into your expertise, creating more selling and referral opportunities. In effect, becoming known as an expert is another style of prospecting for new business, just in reverse. Instead of finding new and qualified people to sell to, these people seek you out for your expertise.

13. Create a competitive advantage.
A home business must have a clearly defined unique selling proposition. This is nothing more than a fancy way of asking the vital question, "Why will people choose to do business with you or purchase your product or service instead of doing business with a competitor and buying his product or service?" In other words, what one aspect or combination of aspects is going to separate your business from your competition? Will it be better service, a longer warranty, better selection, longer business hours, more flexible payment options, lowest price, personalized service, better customer service, better return and exchange policies or a combination of several of these?

14. Invest in yourself. Top entrepreneurs buy and read business and marketing books, magazines, reports, journals, newsletters, websites and industry publications, knowing that these resources will improve their understanding of business and marketing functions and skills. They join business associations and clubs, and they network with other skilled business people to learn their secrets of success and help define their own goals and objectives. Top entrepreneurs attend business and marketing seminars, workshops and training courses, even if they have already mastered the subject matter of the event. They do this because they know that education is an ongoing process. There are usually ways to do things better, in less time, with less effort. In short, top entrepreneurs never stop investing in the most powerful, effective and best business and marketing tool at their immediate disposal--themselves.

15. Be accessible.
We're living in a time when we all expect our fast food lunch at the drive-thru window to be ready in mere minutes, our dry cleaning to be ready for pick-up on the same day, our money to be available at the cash machine and our pizza delivered in 30 minutes or it's free. You see the pattern developing--you must make it as easy as you can for people to do business with you, regardless of the home business you operate.

You must remain cognizant of the fact that few people will work hard, go out of their way, or be inconvenienced just for the privilege of giving you their hard-earned money. The shoe is always on the other foot. Making it easy for people to do business with you means that you must be accessible and knowledgeable about your products and services. You must be able to provide customers with what they want, when they want it.

16. Build a rock-solid reputation.
A good reputation is unquestionably one of the home business owner's most tangible and marketable assets. You can't simply buy a good reputation; it's something that you earn by honoring your promises. If you promise to have the merchandise in the customer's hands by Wednesday, you have no excuse not to have it there. If you offer to repair something, you need to make good on your offer. Consistency in what you offer is the other key factor. If you cannot come through with the same level of service (and products) for clients on a regular basis, they have no reason to trust you . . . and without trust, you won't have a good reputation.

17. Sell benefits.
Pushing product features is for inexperienced or wannabe entrepreneurs. Selling the benefits associated with owning and using the products and services you carry is what sales professionals worldwide focus on to create buying excitement and to sell, sell more, and sell more frequently to their customers. Your advertising, sales presentations, printed marketing materials, product packaging, website, newsletters, trade show exhibit and signage are vital. Every time and every medium used to communicate with your target audience must always be selling the benefits associated with owning your product or using your service.

18. Get involved. Always go out of your way to get involved in the community that supports your business. You can do this in many ways, such as pitching in to help local charities or the food bank, becoming involved in organizing community events, and getting involved in local politics. You can join associations and clubs that concentrate on programs and policies designed to improve the local community. It's a fact that people like to do business with people they know, like and respect, and with people who do things to help them as members of the community.

19. Grab attention.
Small-business owners cannot waste time, money and energy on promotional activities aimed at building awareness solely through long-term, repeated exposure. If you do, chances are you will go broke long before this goal is accomplished. Instead, every promotional activity you engage in, must put money back in your pocket so that you can continue to grab more attention and grow your business.

20. Master the art of negotiations.
The ability to negotiate effectively is unquestionably a skill that every home business owner must make every effort to master. It's perhaps second in importance only to asking for the sale in terms of home business musts. In business, negotiation skills are used daily. Always remember that mastering the art of negotiation means that your skills are so finely tuned that you can always orchestrate a win-win situation. These win-win arrangements mean that everyone involved feels they have won, which is really the basis for building long-term and profitable business relationships.

21. Design Your workspace for success.
Carefully plan and design your home office workspace to ensure maximum personal performance and productivity and, if necessary, to project professionalism for visiting clients. If at all possible, resist the temptation to turn a corner of the living room or your bedroom into your office. Ideally, you'll want a separate room with a door that closes to keep business activities in and family members out, at least during prime business and revenue generating hours of the day. A den, spare bedroom, basement or converted garage are all ideal candidates for your new home office. If this is not possible, you'll have to find a means of converting a room with a partition or simply find hours to do the bulk of your work when nobody else is home.

22. Get and stay organized.
The key to staying organized is not about which type of file you have or whether you keep a stack or two of papers on your desk, but it's about managing your business. It's about having systems in place to do things. Therefore, you wan to establish a routine by which you can accomplish as much as possible in a given workday, whether that's three hours for a part-time business or seven or nine hours as a full-timer. In fact, you should develop systems and routines for just about every single business activity. Small things such as creating a to-do list at the end of each business day, or for the week, will help keep you on top of important tasks to tackle. Creating a single calendar to work from, not multiple sets for individual tasks or jobs, will also ensure that jobs are completed on schedule and appointments kept. Incorporating family and personal activities into your work calendar is also critical so that you work and plan from a single calendar.

23. Take time off.
The temptation to work around the clock is very real for some home business owners. After all, you don't have a manager telling you it's time to go home because they can't afford the overtime pay. Every person working from home must take time to establish a regular work schedule that includes time to stretch your legs and take lunch breaks, plus some days off and scheduled vacations. Create the schedule as soon as you have made the commitment to start a home business. Of course, your schedule will have to be flexible. You should, therefore, not fill every possible hour in the day. Give yourself a backup hour or two. All work and no play makes you burn out very fast and grumpy customer service is not what people want.

24. Limit the number of hats you wear.
It's difficult for most business owners not to take a hands-on approach. They try to do as much as possible and tackle as many tasks as possible in their business. The ability to multitask, in fact, is a common trait shared by successful entrepreneurs. However, once in a while you have to stand back and look beyond today to determine what's in the best interest of your business and yourself over the long run. Most highly successful entrepreneurs will tell you that from the time they started out, they knew what they were good at and what tasks to delegate to others.

25. Follow-up constantly.
Constant contact, follow-up, and follow-through with customers, prospects, and business alliances should be the mantra of every home business owner, new or established. Constant and consistent follow-up enables you to turn prospects into customers, increase the value of each sale and buying frequency from existing customers, and build stronger business relationships with suppliers and your core business team. Follow-up is especially important with your existing customer base, as the real work begins after the sale. It's easy to sell one product or service, but it takes work to retain customers and keep them coming back.

Abraham - September 30, 2013

Fashola at the official opening of Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, unveiled the tallest hotel in West Africa, the Intercontinental Lagos built at a cost of N30 billion.

Fashola unveiled the hotel in a ceremony also attended by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu 1; ex-governor of CBN, Joseph Sanusi, and other dignitaries.

The hotel located at Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, is a 23-storey building with 358 rooms, 37 suites and a presidential suite.

The Intercontinental Lagos, a subsidiary of the Intercontinental Hotel Group, IHG, is owned by the Milan Group.

Fashola said the new hotel showed that the economy of the country was witnessing growth daily but without corresponding employment.

According to him: “The new sector is the tourism sector. This is the only virgin sector in the country, and it will help address the challenges of unemployment in the country.”

The governor said the new hotel had helped to create new 650 direct jobs in the state.

He noted that with the construction of more hotels and hospitality outfits, more direct jobs would be created as well as numerous indirect jobs.

Chairman, Milan Group, Ramesh Valechha said the hotel will change the landscape of Lagos and boost the hospitality industry in the state.

He noted that the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU,  for the project was signed on March 31, 2004 while it took two years to complete the design work before the conceptual- isation of the project began.

He stated that the Lagos State Government, Skye Bank and Wema Bank were in supportive of the project.

Valechha disclosed the building of the hotel cost over N30 billion while 650 jobs were created for Nigerians.

Has sex lost meaning?

Abraham - September 30, 2013

--Standardmedia

Sex has found a new home in weird places with 90 per cent of Nairobi women this writer spoke to confessing that sex in cars is not only a normal thing but that they have experienced it as well.

The men on the other hand openly give accounts of their sexual escapades in cars, many having done it multiple times and claiming, rather surprisingly, to have been driven to it by the women.

Take the case of a Chris*, who confesses to have had sex in his car countless times. I asked him what pushed him to do the very first time.

“The girl wanted a wild experience and I obliged,“ he says and jokingly, adding,” What are friends for?” You are good to go as long as the parking is dark and the car windows are tinted.”

Chris says he has done this a couple of times, the anxiety of getting caught notwithstanding.

Joshua* another lover of car sex says, “Just like sex in the store or on a corridor, sex in the car is fun. The anxiety caused by the unorthodox venue and the risk of getting caught takes the pleasure to crazy heights.”

Joshua however warns that sex in the car is a recipe for a bad omen. He says that sooner or later after a car romp, a traffic accident is inevitable. He says it happened to him just days after an escapade and also to three of his ‘boys’ as well, something Chris* disputes as an old wives’ tale.

Not that this car thing is a youth fad. Wachira*, a student at a local private university, narrates what he witnessed at a famous Nairobi shopping mall. His mother and sister had left him resting in their car at the parking lot as they shopped in the mall. Suddenly, a man in his 50s walked out of the mall with a 20-something-year-old petite woman. Joshua saw them put their shopping in the boot and get in the car, which oddly stayed put for 30 minutes before driving off.

“Something unusual was happening to that car. I could see it rock — like a bed. Some action was certainly taking place. It was around 7.10pm and there was a streetlight, but the car windows were tinted and their windscreen was facing away from the light,” Wachira* recalls.

wildest moment

Carole*, the only woman who shared her experience, describes her 3am tryst at a quiet parking as her wildest moment, one she can never forget, and wouldn’t hesitate to try it again in the car or a weirder place like the dance floor.

“It is exciting, brings out your wild side, but don’t try it in a borrowed car. Damages are inevitable!” Carole quips.

Call girls in an up market part of Nairobi have also turned cars into lodgings. Most of their clients are taxi drivers who at the close of business pay for the services by dropping the call girls home.

Car romps happen mostly at night on parking lots near pubs and girls’ hostels. But this being Kenya, watchmen and cops are always on the look out to catch the culprits and squeeze money out of them as happened last weekend outside a girls‘ hostel in the outskirts of Nairobi

A couple caught in a compromising situation outside the girls’ hostel was trying to settle the matter ‘out of court’ with the watchman who was demanding Sh5,000 with the man offering half of that in order not to get the girl, a resident of the strict hostel, into problems.

A consensus was reached and the unlucky guy forked out Sh2,000 as the girl staggered into the hostel.

The watchman sheepishly disclosed to this writer that that was neither his first nor last deal of this kind and said business is more lucrative for his peers in town.

tip off

“They spread cartons on the floors for ‘customers’ at a fee at night. But if the man looks loaded, they tip off policemen on the beat who arrest the ‘misbehaving’ couple in their birthday suits and squeeze anything from Sh5,000 to as much as 10,000 out of them. The watchman, therefore, earns double — from renting the floor to the couple and from a share of the loot from the policemen,” he says.

Watchmen will also tell you that flushing couples out of pub toilets is commonplace. Just last week, a couple was smoked out of a toilet in a pub in the heart of Nairobi.

The embarrassed couple walked out of the toilet to the grinning faces of fellow revellers who had gathered outside the washroom, their fun cut short by a hawk-eyed bouncer. In another pub, those waiting outside the toilet were bemused when a woman peeped and said, “Just a minute darlings.” A few minutes later, a man in a suit emerged followed by the women smoothening her skirt.

Walter, a bouncer in a Nairobi club says that throwing out people trying out what he calls “too much in the club” has become part of his job. He says that such people hide at dark corners of the pub and in some instances the culprits are not young. He recalls an incident where he had to throw out an old lady in the company of a middle-aged man who were “behaving like chicken”. Similar incidents in the pubs have been witnessed on the dance floor and couches.

Some daring people have even attempted to have sex at the DJ’s cubicle in pubs, mostly in collaboration with the Dj — or even the Dj being that daring rogue.

Alfred* says he has had sex twice on the dance floor. “Everybody on the dance floor minds their own business, it is always congested and a simple sex escapade is easily mistaken for a dance style. It’s easy to get extremely naughty, especially if the girl is wearing tights,” he says.

And still on pubs, there is a crazy live sex show in a famous strip club in Nairobi. The male clients give premium money for the show and the girl chooses a random man to have sex with and decides whether the man should wear protection or not. The other men spectate in anticipation of being chosen by the next girl or the same girl in round two or three.

alcohol

Away from pubs, other notorious places for ‘wild sex’ are the endless social and sporting events in towns. Young souls indulge in alcohol and get out of control, mating everywhere in the fields and paths as witnessed in a recent sporting event.

This is not so different from in-house parties hosted by university students, something notorious with universities along Thika Road. A victim of gang rape disguised as consensual group sex had a warning for this writer: “Don‘t go to an in house university students‘ party if you don‘t want to sleep with half of the men attending. All sort of stuff are served in these parties — from weed cookies to heroine and cocaine. Some of the girls willingly have sex with as many guys as possible in some sort of competition while others get drugged and dragged into the same.”

Kenya’s Controversial blogger Bogonko is missing

Abraham - September 30, 2013

Concern is growing over the disappearance of blogger and former journalist Bogonko Bosire.

There have been no official reports to police that the avid social media buff is missing but his friends have expressed their fears on social media over his disappearance since September 19.

One of his friends who works for State House has asked the police to find him. Dennis Itumbi, the State House Director Digital, New Media &Diaspora, tweeted on September 24: “Kindly @InteriorKE and @PoliceKE help us #Findbogonkobosire good response by Benson Kibue, the Nairobi County Commander.”

Police have not however confirmed if they are investigating his disappearance. Bogonko’s absence comes at a time when there are rumours that the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrant for him over leaking details of PEV witnesses.

The ICC has not responded to our request if the allegations are true.

He has also been missing since the start of the Westgate siege, the kind of events that he liked to report about. Friends fearing for the worst have not found his body at the City Mortuary. He was last seen on September 19.

The Secrets of What Makes a Product Go Viral

Abraham - September 29, 2013

The Secrets of What Makes a Product Go Viral

Ten years ago, had you ever heard of the hand sanitizer Purell? It existed, but nobody really used it. Then one day, it was everywhere. Grocery stores placed dispensers at the door, nail salons gave it to clients, and people started carrying travel size bottles in their bags. With little advertising, how did Purell catch on?

Jonah Berger, an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, has dedicated his career to answering that question. As he explains in his new book, Contagious: Why Things Catch On (Simon & Schuster, 2013), every viral product has six key features in common -- features that can be replicated to make any product go viral.

"People often think that contagious products just get lucky," Berger says. "But it's not luck and it’s not random. It's science."

According to Berger's research, specific circumstances and attributes empower consumers to share a given product. Any business can leverage those insights to create a viral hit. "You don't need a huge advertising budget," Berger says.

As many as half of consumers' purchasing decisions are driven by word of mouth marketing -- it's trustworthy and far more targeted than traditional advertising. Plus, the majority of those interactions happen offline, where advertisements can't reach. "Authenticity is a big reason word of mouth impacts behavior," Berger says.

To create a viral product that consumers are inspired to share authentically, incorporate these key elements.
1. Social currency. Consumers are more likely to adopt a product if it makes them feel special or ahead of the curve. For example, Gilt's exclusive sales helped it become one of the hottest online shopping sites.

2. Triggers. Products that catch on become part of our everyday lives, so successful products create reasons and reminders to return on a regular basis. For example, Facebook and Twitter drive you back to their sites every time they email you to say you have a new message or mention.

3. Emotional impact. People tend to evangelize a product if it affected them emotionally, whether it solved a stressful problem or brightened a bad day. For example, if a Buzzfeed article makes you laugh, you’ll likely share it with friends who need a lift.

4. Visibility. Giving a product a distinctive feature, such as a standout logo or color, helps consumers notice when others are using it. For example, you immediately recognize iPods because Apple made the headphones white when other companies all used black.

5. Practical value. A truly useful product that helps the user become more effective is more likely to be recommended often. For example, Evernote is very good at helping users remember and organize information, so it's often recommended for research.

6. Stories. If people are going to share your product, they need to be able to tell its story. That can be as simple as a clear statement about what the product does, or as complicated as a really interesting origin story. For example, people who buy TOMS shoes love telling others how one pair is donated for every pair you buy.

How PDP Plans To Rig 2015 Polls, Destabilize Nigeria - APC

Abraham - September 29, 2013

Lai Mohammed

The All Progressives Congress says it has uncovered a ‘grand and serpentine’ plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Presidency to rig the 2015 general elections, especially the presidential poll, and to destabilize Nigeria. In a statement issued in Lagos today by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the multi-faceted strategy includes suppression of votes in areas where the President's chances are slim, using the police and the military.

According to APC, the PDP and the Presidency also plan to use what they have tagged a ‘Third Force’ to:

    •    Bamboozle Nigerians and project the image of a performing Presidency, even when they admit that the current public perception of the government is less than salutary because of its weakness and lack of vision;
    •    Engage in the destabilization of the APC using moles and fifth columnists;

    •    Instigate chaos in the South-West using what they called the ''Old Afenifere Guards'' and

    •    Infiltrate and weaken socio-cultural and socio-political organizations in areas they deem to be unfavourable to the President.

Shockingly, APC said, the PDP/Presidency's grand plot also does not exclude even the PDP itself, as they are pursuing a strategy of decisively and ruthlessly purging from the ranks of the party's inner decision-making caucus all recalcitrant members, including governors and House of Representatives members. '

'The dogged pursuit of this action of dealing with supposed recalcitrant members has led to suspensions, expulsions and alienation of some PDP members, and it was the immediate trigger of the collapse of the party of tattered umbrella,'' APC said. ''After all, it is said that a house divided against itself cannot stand." Elaborating on the plot, APC said the North-East and the North-West have been singled out as areas where votes must be suppressed in 2015, by creating an enabling environment for the deployment of ''special forces'' in the run-up to the 2015 elections. To that end, it said the plan involves launching police/military actions in the run-up to 2015, to ensure most of the registered voters in the zones are disenfranchised. ''The reason these two geo-political zones have been singled out for 'vote suppression' is because of what the PDP/Presidency called the 'voting demographics' in the zones in 2011. The North West had 18,900, 543 registered voters in 2011 while the North-East had 10,038,119.

By contrast, the President's 'safe support base' of South-South and South-East had 8,937,057 and 7,028,560 respectively, the total of which was less than that of the North-West alone! ''The PDP/Presidency therefore believe that unless the votes in these two zones are suppressed, and those of the South-West (14,298,356) stifled one way or the other, the chances of the President winning re-election are very poor. Needless to say that these three zones (NE, NW and SW) are considered to be hostile to the President, hence must be tamed,'' APC said. With regards to the Third Force, APC said it involves railroading unsuspecting credible and independent-minded Nigerians with deep knowledge of, and extensive penetration of the media, civil society, labour, youth, women and ethnic nationalities into the plan, in which they will be given scripts written by the government and sent out to inundate the airwaves and the print media, posing as experts and public analysts to peddle lies and reel out statistics that have no bearing on the standard of living of the average Nigerian. It said that perhaps the most dangerous aspect of the plot is the determined attempt by the PDP/Presidency to constrict the democratic space by moving against the main opposition party which they regard as a ''real threat'' to the President if it (the party) does not implode or is forced to break up before 2015.

“The strategy to achieve this is multi-pronged: The PDP/Presidency will use those they called fifth columnists, disillusioned party members and 'deep cover plants' to fracture the APC; Play up clash of ambitions among its leaders, as well as create and empower a new anti-APC political force in the South-West, comprising the old Afenifere guards whom they described as spent and disillusioned forces, but who can be manipulated to achieve the desired objective of neutralizing the APC; And to revive some dormant political forces.” APC said while it is not bothered by the desperation of the PDP/Presidency to engage in unfair and foul means to win elections, it is astounded that a democratically-elected President will resort to actions that are far from democratic just to retain power at all costs.

''The PDP/Presidency should know that no power in the world can stop an idea whose time has come. For Nigeria, this is the time for change, and change will come in spite of the shenanigans of the devilish duo. Our hope is that these desperadoes do not destroy the country in their rabid ambition,'' the party said. It called on Nigerians to be vigilant in the days, weeks and months ahead as the PDP/Presidency begin to roll out their grand plot.

Scam:Polish woman Standing standing trial for a N9 million scam.

Abraham - September 29, 2013

gavel

An Abuja High Court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of a Polish woman, Mrs Dora Gilmaska, who is standing trial for a N9 million scam.

Justice Abubakar Umar issued the warrant at the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday as Gilmaska failed to appear before the court.

The EFCC is prosecuting Gilmaska, the Executive Officer of Icon Media and Marketing Agency Ltd, for allegedly forging and issuing a dud cheque of N9 million to one Tayo Olugbemi in 2012.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the judge issued the warrant as counsel to the accused, Mr Chris Okoye, did not offer any reason why his client failed to appear in court.

Umar said when arrested, Gilmaska should be kept in the custody of the EFCC till the next date of hearing on October 8.

The judge also fixed October 8 for adoption of final written addresses by prosecution and defendant counsel.

Earlier, EFCC counsel, Mr Sam Ugwuegulam, told the court that the case was slated for adoption of final written addresses.

However, counsel to the accused urged the court to adjourn following the absence of his client.

Okoye said that his client had not communicated to him her reason for not attending the trial.
