It's no mystery why a cruise that lasts anywhere from 90 to 180 days and takes you around the world would top the list. You only have to unpack once, deal with transit hassles a single time, and yet, you get to circumnavigate the globe and visit dozens of cities. While the cruises hit major ports and well-known travel destinations, many of the ships also dock in some lesser-known areas that travelers ordinarily might have skipped.
Italy's Amalfi Coast
The southern coastal towns of Italy are some of the most scenic travelers will ever see. Add to that the grapefruit-sized lemons hanging off of cliffs and some of the world's most iconic hotels, and it makes sense that this place has built up quite a romance around it.

This is all about soaking up the culture and the lifestyle, and feeling like a local -- waking up in Provence or Tuscany in your own "home," walking into town, exploring the local farmers' market and shops, and returning to your own space.
