Chairman Jega explained that even though INEC was prepared to run the elections later this month, “there are other variables” at play when ensuring that Nigeria’s elections are free and fair.
One of the greatest concerns for February’s election was the question of insecurity, particularly in the northeast. Chairman Jega has been under intense pressure from the government and security services to postpone the election dates.
Chairman Jega announced that the new date for the presidential and national elections will be March 28th, and the state and local races will be two week after on April 11th.
