FIFA INVESTIGATE AFRICAN TEAMS

Abraham - June 18, 2013
FIFA have revealed that Ethiopia, Togo and Equatorial Guinea all face disciplinary proceedings for allegedly fielding ineligible players during their World Cup qualifiers.

The matches in question are the Walia Antelopes' 2-1 win over Botswana on June 8, the Sparrow Hawks' 2-0 victory over Cameroon on June 9 and Equatorial Guinea's 4-3 victory over Cape Verde on March 24.

Should Ethiopia be found guilty and docked the three points earned in that game, South Africa, who are out of the running to progress to the next round of qualification for the World Cup after their 2-1 loss in Addis Ababa on Sunday, would be handed a lifeline as they would then be two points behind the group leaders with both countries left with one game to play.

The world governing body announced that they have reached a decision regarding the Nzalang Nacional, and although they have not released details, they did reveal that the African nation has launched an appeal.sports

The ramifications in Group B and Group I should Equatorial Guinea and Togo be docked three points are as follows: Cape Verde would close to within two points of leaders Tunisia - their opponents in the final game, while the Indomitable Lions would be in pole position for the next round as they would move one point ahead Libya.

The names of the players under investigation were not released by FIFA, nor was a date given for the publication of the findings
