Mba misses out on Stoke deal

Sunday Mba's agent has ruled out a move to Premier League side Stoke City for the Nigeria midfielder due to a failure to secure a work permit.

The Enugu Rangers star was reportedly wanted at the Britannia Stadium for next season, only for the Potters to lose interest in his services upon learning of his predicament.

According to Mba's representative, Richard Umejei, a deal to take the 24-year-old to England fell through as he has played too few international matches involving the Super Eagles over the last few years.

"It's a pity Mba can no longer go to Stoke City because of work permit issues," Umejei told MTNFootball.

"He played 10 matches out of 20 matches, which is far below the 75% required for him to be granted a work permit. Had he played another five matches, he would have been good to go.

"Both the Stoke chief scout, Kevin Cruickshank, and director of football, Mark Cartwright, were keen to invite him before they researched that his international appearances fall short of minimum required for a work permit."
