A lecturer of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been arrested for forgery aimed at ousting the Vice Chancellor of the institution in an apparent 'coup attempt.
The suspect, a lecturer in UNIBEN's Department of Chemistry allegedly forged the letter headed paper of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the signature of the chapter chairman, Dr. Anthony Monye-Emina.
He then wrote a petition to the Minister of Education Ibrahim Shekarau, using the forged letterhead paper, alleging that Prof. Oshodin was no longer fit to run the institution.
Citing 'health issues', the lecturer urged the Minister to appoint an Acting Vice Chancellor in Oshodin's stead.
According to the police, the suspect has been under investigation since September, leading to his arrest.
