We know that the Apple watch is ridiculously expensive, so much so that competitor Pebble had a glorious time trolling the $10,000 device. It's so expensive, and somehow so desirable, that this Chinese dude became a drug dealer to buy it, even before it was launched in China. The 21-year-old man, who goes as 'Zeng', was arrested on Tuesday on charges of drug dealing. He confessed to the theft, and to being a gadget nerd who wanted to score the watch when it went on sale in China next month. He'd already borrowed money to buy the iPhone 6 in January.
As for the watch, he earned a commission by getting his friend to pick up 10 grams of smoke-able methamphetamine, and over a 100 pills of a local drug cocktail called “Magu,” brewed from a mix of methamphetamine and caffeine, from a dealer.
While he earned 3,000 yuan ($480) for this deal, both him and his friend got caught. Zeng attempted to escape, but was caught immediately. If he had been successful, Zeng could have bought the cheapest model of the Apple Watch, scheduled for a 2,588 yuan ($414) China launch.
