Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy is among 100 people jailed in Egypt who have been granted a presidential pardon, his lawyer said Wednesday.
In a post on his Facebook page, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi wrote that he was pardoning “100 young people.”
Fahmy’s lawyer Khaled Abu Bakr confirmed the pardon, and Egypt’s state-run news agency said Sisi had ordered those pardoned be released today.
“We are just speechless,” Fahmy’s brother Adel told the Star in a brief telephone interview Wednesday morning.
